Representatives
At nearly every election since its foundation the SP has increased its representation. You can read about our members in
- in Local Councils
- in all twelve Provincial Assemblies
- in the Tweede Kamer (‘Second Chamber’, equivalent to the British House of Commons or US House of Representatives)
- in the Eerste Kamer (literally First Chamber, roughly equivalent to the British House of Lords or the US Senate – though members of the Eerste Kamer are 'indirectly' elected by the provincial assemblies )
All of the SP’s elected representatives hand their allowances over to the party, which is therefore able to finance a broader range of activities and campaigns. Those, like our MPs, whose duties require a full-time commitment receive a salary in keeping with that of the average Dutch worker. By doing this we make it quite clear that politicians should not be using their positions to line their own pockets.
