Film Mania

For months now our country has been ravaged by film mania. Much speculation, many media releases and hundreds of commentaries later, the film which provoked this is at last here – Fitna. Geert Wilders has succeeded these last few months in dominating the news [1]. Friend and foe must give him his due for this achievement, which demonstrates what is, for a politician, a skill of some importance.

The Cabinet must call for a halt to the excessive influence exercised by corporate business in the drafting of European legislation. In a series of parliamentary questions, SP Member of Parliament and European Affairs spokesman Harry van Bommel today called on the government to resist corporate influence at EU level.

Keep 'chlorine chickens' out of Europe

European Commissioner Gunter Verheugen wants to allow American "chlorine chickens" on to the European market in order to improve EU-US trade relations. SP Euro-MP Kartika Liotard disagrees, and today put a series of written questions on the issue to the Commission. "Public health should never take a back seat to trade interests," she says.
