SP Senator Kox returns to Russia as head of Council of Europe election observer team
On Wednesday 29th February SP Senator Tiny Kox travels to Russia in order to head the Council of Europe’s team of observers for Sunday’s presidential election. Kox, who also led the team for the recent parliamentary elections, will be one of thirty parliamentarians from different European countries who will be monitoring developments surrounding the presidential poll. The team will work closely with observers from the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE).
In Russia Kox will speak with the presidential candidates, the president of the Central Electoral Council, domestic election observers, members of the diplomatic corps, representatives of the Russian media, and others. With each he will discuss how the election campaign has unfolded and about their own experiences. On Sunday members of the team will be posted at different polling stations in various regions of the country.
On Monday afternoon Senator Kox will present the team’s findings during a press conference. In April the final report will be published, in which both this election and the results of the observations of the parliamentary elections will be discussed. Between the beginning of November and early February Kox was in Moscow on a number of occasions dealing with the parliamentary poll, its aftermath and the preparations for the new mission.
