Biography
Attached to the Free University of Amsterdam as a political scientist, where he is director of education and Professor of International Relations. In the Senate he is responsible for financial issues, defence, European and foreign affairs and higher education.
‘The SP is the only party which has a fundamental critique of capitalism.’
Bastiaan feels at home in the SP because of its fundamental critique of the capitalist system. ‘The system rests on injustice and inequality. In addition we resist in principle - often as the only ones to do so - wars, which work in a counterproductive manner. The SP offers alternatives to neoliberal capitalism. By participating in local authority executives and conducting demonstrations and other actions we also put these alternatives into practice, thus adding deed to word and helping to solve problems and achieve concrete improvements.’
