Russia expelled from Council of Europe
The Council of Europe, the continent’s main institution governing human rights, voted to expel Russia as a member. The reason for the decision is Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine.
The decision came hours after Russia had given formal notice that it would withdraw from the group with an unanimously adopted motion.
Parliamentary Assembly president and SP-senator Tiny Kox: 'We are of course sad that we had to expel a member of our organization, one which has been a member for over 25 years. But I’m glad that we dared to do it. It is clear: if you cross red lines, there is no place for you in this organization.'
