Climate Change Report 'a step in the right direction'
Climate Change Report 'a step in the right direction'
On 4th February the European Parliament will discuss the climate policy report from German Christian Democrat Karl-Heinz Florenz, "2050: the future begins today".
Life-style changes
SP Euro-MP Kartika Liotard, commenting on the report, said: "It is clear that we won't achieve anything by simply reducing emissions of greenhouse gasses. In order to limit the effects of climate change to the greatest possible extent, we will have to find political solutions which adapt our consumerist lifestyle across the board to the realities of climate change."
Turn the tide
The Florenz Report advocates measures to encourage greater energy efficiency, investment in research into techniques for reducing carbon emission, the use of energy from sustainable sources including sustainable bio-fuels, changes in agriculture, transport and water management, and a great deal more. "The scale of the changes required of us as a society is so great, that you ask yourself if the tide can still be turned. The report is a step in the right direction, but on its own it won't be enough."
