Moroccan spying in the Netherlands: SP demands explanation from Interior Minister

SP Member of Parliament Ronald van Raak has asked Interior Minister Guusje Ter Horst for an explanation of events surrounding the alleged handing over of secret information by a Rotterdam police officer to the Moroccan secret service. The information is said to concern radical Islamicist elements within the Netherlands' extensive Moroccan population. Van Raak wants to know what diplomatic steps the government has taken against Morocco in connection with the incident, and whether, aside from this event, police officers have been the subject of spying activities by other countries.

American interference in Bolivia must end

SP Member of Parliament Ewout Irrgang has today asked Foreign Minister Maxime Verhagen and Development Minister Bert Koenders to express their support for the democratically elected Bolivian President Evo Morales. Bolivia has for some weeks been suffering violent attacks and protests from the opposition, apparently with US support.

Fact-finding Mission to Kosovo

SP Euro-MP Erik Meijer this summer visited Kosovo. Kosovo, long part of Yugoslavia, and since earlier in the year a country which has newly declared its independence. Meijer spoke there to a range of representatives of different social movements.

What will the Romanians do?

This autumn the Dutch Parliament must decide whether to lift all border restrictions on Romanian and Bulgarian migrants. In the light of the experience in the case of Polish migration, the SP is extremely critical of this opening of borders. Far more Polish workers came to the Netherlands than were originally expected, and this led to a number of difficulties on the Dutch labour market. SP Member of Parliament Paul Ulenbelt visited Romania in August to look into how the Netherlands is seen by Romanians and what the results have been to date of emigration to other EU countries.
