SP: ‘No extra billion for European militarisation’

Today the SP delegation in the European Parliament voted against the proposal to add at least a billion euros a year to the military research budget. It was found to be a step too far, too quickly, and once more in the wrong direction.” So said SP Senator Tiny Kox during today’s policy debate with the Ministers of Foreign Affairs and development Cooperation.

The SP has reacted with measured enthusiasm to the news that the debts of eighteen developing countries are to be written off. This decision means that hundreds of millions of euros a year will become available for investment in education, health care and other social sectors in the affected countries, most of which are in Africa.
