Meta Meijer (1969) lives in Amsterdam and has been a member of the Senate since 2015. Since 2008 Meta has been employed in various positions related to defence of the environment. She has been a member of the district council of Amsterdam East and from 2002 to 2010 a member of Amsterdam City Council.
‘In a time when only 62 people own as much as do half of the world’s population, a fairer division is badly needed.’
In the Senate Meta is responsible for infrastructure, the environment, regional planning and relations within the Kingdom of the Netherlands, which is to say with those former colonies which now enjoy a variety of statuses within the Dutch state. ‘My most important motivation in being active for the SP is that we really show concern for people. In a time when only 62 people own as much as do half of the world’s population, a fairer division is badly needed. That’s also what I want to achieve in the Senate: with clear standpoints, find majorities to see bad ideas ditched and good proposals carried.’
