SP Senator Tineke SlagterTineke Slagter was born on 27 December 1948. She attended secondary school in the tumultuous sixties, following which she studied medicine in Groningen. Immediately afterward she worked as a nursing physician in Zuidhorn and gave courses to health-care workers.
In 1982 and 1983 she followed further training as a physician, then a
postdoctoral program in psychotherapy and a cadre program with the Royal
Dutch Medical Association. As is appropriate for a physician, she continues
nonstop with training and professional studies. Between 1987 and 1991
she also served as coordinator of the Bureau of Woman Doctors in Groningen-Drenthe.
From the early 1980s Tineke has been a practicing family doctor, first
in a salaried position but since 1991 with her own practice in Zuidhorn
as part of a health center.
Tineke Slagter began to fulfill various leadership functions immediately
on finishing her basic studies first with the Northern Union of
Nursing Physicians and later with the Royal Dutch Medical Association,
where she first chaired the departmental and district boards in Groningen,
and finally between 2000 and 2002 the national board. During the same
period she was chairperson of the National Union of Physicians.
Since 2002 Tineke has been involved with the Zorg voor Iedereen (Care for All) committee, and in 2003 she also became a member of the Artsen voor Vrede (Doctors for Peace) action committee. She has a daughter and two sons.
